The countdown begins for the 50th Anniversary Black Tie gala which is scheduled to take place at the Grand Ballroom and Auditorium in the Rochdale Village Community Center.
The Rochdale Village Community Center was designed to be the centerpiece of the cooperative. This massive structure has over 20 rooms, an east and west wing, a glass wall of window panels at its entrance and is tiled with highly polished red ceramic brick. At one time the exterior courtyard of the community center boasted a working fountain which was a favorite backdrop for picture taking.
Inside of the Community Center is the main auditorium which is now renovated into a Grand Ballroom. At one time there was a working theatrical stage with curtains, backstage, dressing room area and more.
In the early days, Rochdale Village had its own choral group called the Community Singers and produced many stage plays such as “Mame” and “The Pajama Game”. The auditorium stage was also the place for visitor presentations from guests like Senator Edward Kennedy, Al Sharpton and none other than former president, Bill Clinton.
On Saturday, November 16th, Rochdale Village will host the community, friends, policitians and other guests with a black tie affair. There will be cocktails and a silent auction beginning at 6:00pm; dinner is at 7:00pm. A special keynote speaker will be featured along with celebrity radio personality Dr. Bob Lee of 107.5 WBLS as the Master of Ceremony.
The musical entertainment will be provided by none other than Black Ivory. The festivities continue into the night with a dance party from 9pm to 1am. It is our hope sincere that you will come out and celebrate this momentous occasion with us.
