Rochdale Village focused on 400-meter hurdles in Rio Olympics

The Rochdale Village community has their eyes trained on the contest for the women’s 400-meter hurdles at the 2016 Rio Olympics.  That’s because resident Dalilah Muhammad will be competing on behalf of Team USA. Dalilah began her illustrious track and field career as a seven year old in the Novas track club at Rochdale Village, a cooperative residence in Jamaica, Queens New York. She excelled at distance running and would qualify for the USATF Cross Country Nationals when she was merely 10 years old. According to George Taylor, Dalilah’s former running coach at the NOVAS Track Club, her high school career at Benjamin Cardozo High School in Bayside, Queens included all-time top PSAL performances, state championships in the high jump, hurdles and much more.

Dalilah went on to represent the University of Southern California in numerous track and field competitions. By 2012, USC touted Dalilah as one of the premier 400m IH hurdlers in the country, having earned All-America honors in the event two times and earning a silver medal at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championship in Moscow Russia in 2013. Her performance in the 400 intermediate hurdles at that international competition set the stage for her pinnacle rise to the Rio Olympics. The Rio Olympics track and field schedule for the 400-meter hurdles is as follows:
