It’s been said that in real estate there’s no more land being made however, in Rochdale Village cooperators recently converted an area of devitalized, brittle pavement to lush green space.
For years, the fenced-in plot behind building 20 of the expansive complex bordering Guy R. Brewer Boulevard contained benches and unwelcome loitering from the adjacent boulevard that warranted the seating be removed.
Rochdale Maintenance excavated the paved area in multiple sections. Following grounds preparation, the exterior chain link fence was removed, topsoil added and an irrigation system installed. The lot is seeded and new grass has filled the area. Voila!
Residents that have been craving a cool scoop of ice cream or a hot cup of their favorite joe will be ecstatic to learn that a Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin-Robbins combo shop is making its way to Rochdale Village Mall #2. The stores will be located in the former law office of Naimark & Tannenbaum.
While there are a number of Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin-Robbins franchises in the southeast Queens area, there’s nothing like having the convenience of one being here on the property.
The store’s buildout should be completed in three to four months. The shops will be open seven days a week from 7 am to 9 pm. Ribbon cutting details to follow.
The Community Relations Committee at Rochdale Village hosted an Annual Health Fair that featured on-site CPR training sessions conducted by S.A.F.E.R. Training Inc. Sean John and Dwayne Stewart are cofounders of the company that offers CPR instruction, safe swimming classes, self-defense and fitness education. “This is our first time doing a health fair in general and it’s great,” said Stewart.
The FDNY Fire Safety Education program educated people on fire safety and awareness through books and pamphlets. FDNY also gave out batteries for smoke detectors.
Emblem Health assisted members with understanding their health plans and enrolled new members on the spot. Dr. Scott’s Nephrology and Internal Medicine Practice participates in the fair annually but this year representatives provided free kidney screenings as well. “It’s a nice test for people to have because diabetes does lead to kidney dysfunction overtime, so anyone who’s having a blood sugar test should have the kidney test just to make sure that their kidneys are okay,” said Mary Ann Fable, a nurse at Dr. Scott’s office.
Jean Randolph-Castro, Rochdale Village Board of Directors Vice President and Co-chairman for the Community Relations Committee shared, “We go out and reach into the community for (organizations) who we think would be viable here for the community for things that they can educate themselves on as far as their health.” A special thanks to all Community Relations Committee team members for a job well done.
